Golda Satterfield

Golda Irene (Lake) Satterfield, 84, of Levels Community, Fairmont, passed away Monday (Dec. 3, 2012) at Fairmont General Hospital.

She was born in Brownsville, Pa., on Feb. 21, 1928, adopted daughter of the late Henry and Mary Merrill.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Glenn Miller Satterfield, in July 2008.

Golda was a devoted and loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a longtime resident of the Pierpont Center in Fairmont where she was a member of the resident council and loved all her friends and caregivers there. Her room at the Pierpont Center was home to her. She enjoyed crocheting, reading, tending to house plants and spending time with her loving grandchildren.

She took great pride in her children and their many occupations, including pharmacy tech, bus driver and maintenance, coal miner, paramedic, nurse and medical examiner.

She is survived by three sons, Kenneth Satterfield and his companion Deloris Vanetti, Glen Satterfield and his wife Dana, and Larry Satterfield, all of Fairmont; two daughters, Barbara Springer and her husband David, and Mary Huffman and her husband Kenneth Jr., all of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and her dog, Key Key.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Raymond Lake and William Lake.

The family would like to thank Marion County Transit Authority, Pierpont Center, Fairmont General Hospital, Marion County Rescue Squad, her son Larry, who was her in-home caregiver for several years, and her daughter Barbara, who was her personal nurse, for all their wonderful care and compassion of Golda during her illness.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
