Patricia (Chiater) Lightfoot

After a long, courageous battle with cancer, Patricia (Chiater) Lightfoot left us on Monday (July 2, 2012) in Kansas, where she had lived for the last 23 years with her husband Marion Lightfoot.

Born Oct. 29, 1940, she was the daughter of the late John and Dorothy (Haught) Chiater of Baxter.

She is survived by her loving husband, Marion Lightfoot of Great Bend, Kan., and her children, Harry “Kip” McGinnis Jr. and his wife Becky of Rivesville, Jeff McGinnis and his wife Kim of Baxter, and Tamara McGinnis of Paris, France; five grandchildren, Melanie (McGinnis) Sackachi, John McGinnis, C.J. McGinnis, Tyler McGinnis and Maximilien McGinnis-Mallett; and two great-grandchildren, Lauren McCallister and Paige Sackachi.

In Kansas, she is survived by three stepchildren, Lisa Vetter, Keith Lightfoot and Marya Bosley; 10 step-grandchildren; and two step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters, Shirley and Paul Russ, Jeannie Morris and Dale Jenkins, Frances and Don Longfellow, and Billie-Kay Lilly, all of the Fairmont area.

She was preceded in death by one brother, James Chiater, who died in 1995; and an infant son, John Gregory McGinnis, who died in 1962.

She graduated from Rivesville High School in 1958, where she was GAA president, homeroom vice president and member of the Sub Deb Club.

Pat was a member of the VFW, First Christian Church, Bungalow FCE and The Historical Society of Great Bend. She enjoyed the sunshine, playing golf and bridge, gardening, bowling and volunteer work, traveling around the world, sight-seeing and spending time with her family in Kansas, West Virginia and Paris.

We were blessed to have had her the short time she was with us.

She was a truly beautiful person. She was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched.

A memorial service was held in Great Bend, Kan., on July 5.

Friends and family will be received at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Second and Jasper streets, Rivesville, from 1-2 p.m. Monday, July 23. A memorial service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Monday, July 23, with Pastor Bill Toothman officiating.

Online condolences may be made at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.

If you wish, memorial contributions may be made in Pat’s name to the Early Lung Cancer Action Program (ELCAP) (working toward a screening program similar to mammograms), PO Box 237119, Ansonia Station, New York, NY 10023; The National Foundation for Cancer Research (NFCR) Research for a Cure at www.nfcr.org; or the cancer organization of your choice.
