Glenn Franklin Watkins, 76, of Las Vegas, died Wednesday (July 11, 2012).
He was born May 2, 1936 in Rivesville to the late Charles Brooks and the late Nancy Ann (Higginbotham) Watkins.
Glenn served in the Army from 1953-57. He worked as a sales manager and retired from JC Penney and then AutoZone, living in Virginia, Tennessee and South Carolina, prior to coming to Las Vegas. Glenn enjoyed light construction and was known to many as “The Answer Man,” a helpful person to know, especially when he was working at Lowe’s. Glenn also enjoyed restoring Corvair cars and was an enthusiastic fan of the Washington Redskins, the South Carolina Gamecocks and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
Glenn is survived by his wife of 26 years, Barbara Watkins; children, Michael (Christie) Watkins of Gaithersburg, Md., David Watkins of Charlottesville, Va., Dawn Watkins of Memphis, Tenn., Jennifer Stubbs of Lexington, S.C., and Robert (Christina) Stubbs of Goose Creek, S.C.; grandchildren, Amanda and Christopher Watkins of Charlottesville, Va.; and siblings, Charles (Helen) Watkins of Greenwood, S.C., Barbara Bradley of Rivesville, Margaret Riley of Clarksburg, William (Lou) Watkins of Rivesville, and Roger (Louise) Watkins of Rivesville.
Glenn enjoyed a life event celebration in Las Vegas with his family on July 4.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Tuesday with the Rev. Stanley Merrifield officiating. Interment will follow at Monumental Cemetery in Barrackville.
