Raymond Lee Higgins, 81, of Mannington, passed away Thursday (July 19, 2012) at his residence.
He was born March 4, 1931 at Wetzel County, a son of the late Nathaniel and Mary Elizabeth Eddy Higgins Walls.
He is survived by six daughters, Delta and Jr. Deem of Stonewood, Joyce and Russell Deem of Mannington, Tammie and Thurman Wolfe of Stonewood, Mary Jo and John Green of Mannington, Robin and Fred Lenord of Flat Run, Mannington, and Penny Higgins of Mannington; four grandchildren, Rachel Higgins and Isabella Higgins, both of Joetown, Rickie Palmer of Mannington, and Paul Higgins of Clarksburg; four special nephews, Mike and Freddie Drain and Kevin Eddy and Don Higgins; one sister, Virginia Higgins Grose and husband Charlie of Shinnston; and several nieces and nephews, including John and Ruby LeMasters of Wooster, Ohio, who were raised in the Higgins’ home.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Viola Joyce Higgins, on April 7, 2012; three brothers, Ray, Clarence and Gail Higgins; and four sisters, Lona Walls, Martha Eddy, Hazel Martin and Elsie Wright.
Mr. Higgins was a Baptist by faith. He enjoyed ginseng hunting, fishing and any outdoor activities. He loved spending time with his granddaughters. He loved his dogs, Winnie and Skylar.
Friends may call at Masters Funeral Home, 209 Main St., Mannington, from 4-8 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in the funeral home with Pastor Homer Ham officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabeth Mason Memorial Cemetery at Joetown.
