Floyd Harding

Floyd Howard Harding, 88, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (March 13, 2013) at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.

He was born in Steubenville, Ohio, on June 20, 1924, a son of the late Charles David and Perie Ioene (Clouston) Harding.

Floyd proudly served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II.

He was a coal miner by trade, retiring from Consolidated Coal Co., Loveridge Mine, with 35 years of service.

He loved going to church and listening to gospel music. He enjoyed the outdoors, caring for his lawn and his cat Sammy.

He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 67 years, Grethel (Flenner) Harding of Fairmont; one son, Willis Carl Harding and his wife Cynthia of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Bryan Harding, Sean Harding and Justin Harding; five great-grandchildren, Gavin Harding, Mason Harding, Emma Harding, Keirra Harding and Casey Harding; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray E. Harding, Charles Harding and Carl Harding; and one sister, Evelyn Nay.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Saturday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 1 p.m. with Chaplin Matthew Chapell officiating with the flag-folding honors to be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.

Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
