Jennie Lee Gaines

Jennie (Woods) Gaines, 59, of Metz passed away Wednesday (March 13, 2013) at her home after a courageous battle with cancer.

She was born in Clarksburg on Sept. 29, 1953, a daughter of the late Bearl Ray and Frances Louise (Shaw) Woods.

Jennie was a nurses’ aid by trade, working at Fairmont General Hospital and also at Monongalia General Hospital. In her earlier years, she worked at the Westinghouse Lamp Plant for nine years. She enjoyed crocheting, spending time with her grandchildren and watching Pittsburgh Steelers and West Virginia University Mountaineer football.

She is survived by her loving husband of 33 years, James Calvin Gaines of Metz; one son, James Calvin Gaines II of Fairmont; two daughters, Maggie Lee Manning of Metz and Sara Louise Hawkinberry and her husband Bob of Fairmont; and nine grandchildren, Jason, Faith, Harley, Eli, Zoey, Hunter, Kaygan, Nicole and Nicholas.

Also surviving is her stepdaughter, Missy Lanham of Ohio; one brother, Selby Ray Woods and his wife Rose Mary of Bridgeport; a niece, Tina Jo Hendershot and her husband Mike of Mannington; a nephew, Brian Woods and his wife Cindy of Georgia; a great-niece, Kelsie Blosser; and good friends who were very special to her, Myia Cole, Lea McMunn and Chris “Peaches” Simons.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St.. Fairmont, from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday. In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, her body will be cremated following her visitation.
