Mattie Bell Smith, 92, of Fairmont, passed away Thursday (March 7, 2013) at the Pierpont Center at Fairmont Campus.
She was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Fairmont, daughter of the late Ed and Edith (Lewis) Jones.
Mattie was a member of the Katy Church of God of Prophecy, and was formerly employed as a senior aide for many area nursing homes.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews that she loved and raised as her own, Betty Ann Barnes of Ohio, Houston Lee of Fairmont, Johnny Lee of Nevada, Gladys Miller of Fairmont, Mary Jackson of Fairmont, Diane Lee of Fairmont, Evangelist Ron Lee of Worthington, Charles “Squeak” Jones of Fairmont, Mattie Jones of Fairmont, Denita Washington of Nevada, Anthony Lee of Fairmont, Virginia Pannell of Virginia, and Terry Freeman of Meadowbrook.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Lillian Freeman and Virginia Lee; and a brother, Curtis Jones.
The family would like to thank the staff at the Pierpont Center and Hospice for their wonderful care.
Family and friends may call at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., in Fairmont, from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Monday. At the family’s request, there will be a private funeral service held at noon for family members only.
