Raymond Monell

Raymond Monell, age 84, of Riverside, Ohio, passed away on Monday (Oct. 22, 2012) at his residence with his family at his side.

He was born in Monongah on Oct. 18, 1928, the son of James and Susan (Tartell) Monell, who preceded him in death.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Elaine (Hewitt) Monell of Riverside; two sons, Ray (Mindy) Monell of Beavercreek and Mark (Sarah) Monell of Lexington, Ky.; two daughters, Cindy (Bob) Sommers of Beavercreek and Valerie (Bob) Zack of Beavercreek; two sisters, Lydia Monell of Monongah and Julia (John) Koloskie of West Virginia; 13 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was employed by the City of Dayton as a maintenance foreman with the fire department until retiring due to a disability. Raymond then owned and operated Monell Trophy Shop. He was a member of St. Helen Catholic Church and was an active member of the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Ray proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

Prayers will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Tobias Funeral Home-Beavercreek Chapel, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Road at Grange Hall Road. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10 a.m. at St. Helen Catholic Church, 5100 Burkhardt Road, with Father David Brinkmoeller, celebrant. Entombment will be in Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5-8 p.m. on Thursday.
