Mary Ellen Hawkinberry

Mary Ellen Hawkinberry, 84, of Bellview, passed peacefully from this life Monday (Oct. 22, 2012) in the home of her son and primary caregiver, under Hospice care.

She was born in Fairmont on May 16, 1928, a daughter of the late Jonathan G. and Mary Elizabeth Kinney Hawkinberry.

Mary was Methodist by faith. She formerly worked at the G.C. Murphy Department Store and the Bellview Cut Rate store. She most recently worked as a custodian for the Marion County Board of Education at Barnes School.

She was a kind and loving person who loved people and would do whatever she could to help others in need. She served as both a babysitter and an elder care sitter. She has been loved and will be missed by all that knew her.

She enjoyed flower gardening (especially roses), reading and watching television, especially sports shows like the Olympics, ice skating, dancing and West Virginia University sports.

This beloved mother and grandmother is survived by her only son and primary caregiver, with the help of his longtime companion, Timothy Paul Hawkinberry and Molly Starsick-Utt; two granddaughters, Abigail Vandergrift and her husband Chris and Kathryn Neel and her husband Danny, all of Fairmont; four great-grandchildren, Adam and Madison Vandergrift and Jonas and Max Neel; and also several nieces and nephews including Michael Hawkinberry of Weirton, who also helped with her care.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Edith, Robert and Helen and Joseph and Stella Hawkinberry; and four sisters and one brother-in-law, Helen, Dorothy and Eva Rebecca Hawkinberry and Martha and Homer Bell. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Friends may call at the Frey Home For Funerals (Addition Chapel A), 320 Madison St., Fairmont, today from 4-8 p.m. and Thursday from 9-11 a.m. Services will be held in the funeral home Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev.
