Gibson Lee “Gib” Barnard

Gibson Lee “Gib” Barnard Sr., 65, of Fairmont, Manley Chapel community, went to be with the Lord, at 4:44 a.m., Wednesday (Oct. 10, 2012) in the Monongalia General Hospital, Morgantown.

He was born in Clarksburg, Aug. 11, 1947, a son of Gibson Lennix and Virginia Myrtle Oats Barnard.

He is survived by his wife, Edith V. Gordon Barnard, whom he married Feb. 9, 2010; one daughter, Lea Ann Shingleton and her husband Pastor Robert, Maulsby Cove, Meadowbrook; three sons, Gibson Lee “Gib” Barnard Jr. and his wife Kristi, Maulsby Cove, Jason Barnard and his wife Shawna, Haywood, and Jamie Barnard and his wife Shana, Nutter Fort; his former wife and the mother of his children, Cora Whaley, Lake Floyd; his grandchildren, Robbie Shingleton, Dakota Shingleton, Alexis Shingleton, Kylee, Azlee, Gibby and Rylee Barnard, Christan, Kaitlyn and Chloe Barnard, Jacob and Madison Barnard; two great-grandchildren; a stepdaughter Sheri Handley and her children, Roxie, Cece, Mia and Dylan; one stepson, Dennie Bolyard and his daughter Jatanna; and one brother, John Chipps and his wife Charleyne. He was also preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil Chipps, Bob Huffman and Paul Huffman; and one sister, Glenna Chipps Butcher; and one stepson, Randy Bolyard.

Gibson worked as the warehouse manager for City Window and Construction Co., Montpeiler Addition, Clarksburg. He was a member of the Jewel City Church, Shinnston. He was a Vietnam veteran, and was proud to have served with the United States Marine Corps. Gib was a longtime and avid softball player and coach. He was a West Virginia University Mountaineer fan and enjoyed being with his grandchildren.

Friends may call at the Jewel City Church, Haywood Road, Shinnston, from 1-8 p.m. today, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, with Pastor Robert Shingleton and Pastor Erik Hustead officiating. Interment will be at 10 a.m. Monday, at the West Virginia National Cemetery at Pruntytown, where full military honors will be accorded.
