Doris Jean Strawderman

Jesus welcomed Doris Jean Strawderman, 87, of Bunner Ridge Community, Fairmont, with her husband by His side Wednesday (Oct. 24, 2012) at John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center.

She was born in Marion County on Sept. 9, 1925, a daughter of the late Harley E. and Dessie Mae (Summers) Watson.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 57 years, Woodrow “Woody” Wilson Strawderman, in January of 1999.

Doris was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. In her earlier years, she worked at Staud’s Restaurant. She was the oldest living member of Mt. Sharon Free Methodist Church. She was a member of T.O.P.S Club. She was a Sunday school teacher for 20 years and a Sunday school superintendent for 15 years. She was a member of Bunner Ridge Homemakers and Bunner Ridge Park Association.

She was a devout follower of Christ and led a loving Christian life. She led her family to Christ and shared salvation with anyone willing to listen. She never knew a stranger. She enjoyed reading the Bible, listening to country music and traveling to Parsons to spend time with her family.

She is survived by four sons, Larry Strawderman and his wife Carrol of Florida, Jerry Strawderman and his companion Ellie Soloman of Monterville, Jim Strawderman of Bunner Ridge, and Denny Strawderman of Bunner Ridge; one daughter, Glenda Sue Brzuzy and her husband Stan of Bunner Ridge; 11 grandchildren, Kristie Solheim and her husband Brent, Karla Brzuzy, Kelly Nicholson and her husband Quint, Rod Strawderman, Jayme Payton and her husband Aaron, Savana Strawderman, Dylan Strawderman, Clay Strawderman, Sara Fellows and her husband Paul, Johna Jozwiak and Trevor Strawderman; 17 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.

Also surviving is a brother-in-law, Robert Wilcox, and several loving nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sons; one granddaughter, Kimmie Lee Strawderman; one brother, Harley Lee “Bud” Watson; and three sisters, Mildred Reeves, Mary Lucille VanGilder and Betty R. Wilcox.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. today and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday. Interment will follow at Mt. Zion Cemetery in Fairmont where she will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband.

The family would like to thank the employees and staff of John Manchin Sr. Health Care Center who treated her like their own during her stay there.
