Denzil Wilkinson

 Denzil James Wilkinson, 89, of Baxter Community passed away Monday (Oct. 15, 2012) at Fairmont General Hospital.  

He was born in Braxton County on Feb. 12, 1923, a son of the late Ethram "Ted" Wilkinson and Rosalee Cutlip Wilkinson.

Mr. Wilkinson was a retired, self-employed auto mechanic and was the owner and operator of the Wilkinson Garage in Baxter for many years.  He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II.  

He was a Methodist by faith and enjoyed carpentry and woodworking as well as gardening, fishing and hunting, and camping with his family and loved the outdoors.  He also enjoyed watching and was a fan of the Pittsburgh Pirates.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Calantha Mae Toothman Wilkinson of Baxter; two daughters, Sheila Gae Wilkinson Vishnick and her husband Larry of Baxter and Shelley Rae Wilkinson Ammons and her husband Danny of McCurdysville Pike; a brother, Paul Wilkinson and his wife Linda survive of Bradenton, Fla.; as well as a sister-in-law Lorenna Wilkinson of Ohio. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Gale and Dale Wilkinson.

The family has entrusted the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel of Rivesville with funeral arrangements. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 8 p.m. today. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Wednesday with Chaplain James Riggs officiating.  Interment will follow at McCurdysville Cemetery. The Marion County Military Veterans Council will conduct full military rites at graveside.   Condolences may be sent to the family at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
