Mrs. Helen M. Gaskins, 89, of Fairmont died Sunday evening (Oct. 14, 2012) at her residence.
She was born in Star City on July 31, 1923, daughter of the late Benjamin and Mary Szkola Lamek.
Helen was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She was also a member of the Owens Ladies Auxiliary, Catholic Daughters of America Court Joan of Arc #341. She was an avid miniature golf fan, bowling and enjoyed the Pittsburgh Pirates and the West Virginia Mountaineers.
She is survived by three sons, James and wife Ann Gaskins of Fairmont, Gary and wife Debora Gaskins of Bridgeport and Thomas Gaskins of Fairmont; and one daughter Mary Elizabeth “Meg” Cianfrocca of Fairmont.
She also is survived by her grandchildren, Christine Harmon, Maureen Gaskins, Ronnie Gaskins, Shannon Elliott, Rocky Cianfrocca, Valerie Gaskins, Kristy Conrad and Jennifer Higgins; and three great-grandchildren Jordan Woodbury, Taylor Woodbury and Kiley Harmon.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin C. Gaskins, in March 1990; and two sisters.
Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 1 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A vigil service will be held Wednesday at the funeral home. Also, the Catholic Daughters of America will hold a ritual service at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Richard Ulam as celebrant. Interment will follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.
