Gladys D. West-Oliver-Vincent, 84, of Fairmont passed away on Saturday (April 12, 2008) at the Arbors of Fairmont Nursing Center.
She was born Sept. 16, 1923, in Fairmont a daughter of the late Gayzelle and Shady Rowan Oliver.
Gladys was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Samuel (Buster) Thomas Vincent who passed away on Nov. 3, 1991. Gladys and Buster were married for 51 1/2 years.
She graduated from East Fairmont High School in 1942. She was a homemaker, devoted wife and mother. Her family, whom she loved very much, was her life, and she so enjoyed spending time with each and every one of them.
Gladys was the oldest member of the Trinity Assembly of God Church. She was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW Post 7048 and a life-time member of the Marion County Senior Citizen Center.
She spent her spare time reading her Bible, which gave her great pleasure and gardening of her flowers.
Gladys is survived by two sons, Thomas O. Vincent and his wife Carolyn R. and Ronald L. Vincent and his wife Charlotte, all of Fairmont; four grandchildren, Shannon C. Harper and her husband John, Brian E. Vincent, Thomas Blaine Vincent and his wife Kim, and Samuel James Vincent, all of Fairmont; and four great-grandchildren, Dakoda P. Harper, Alex Brian Vincent, Krysten C. Harper, and Seth T. Vincent, all of Fairmont. She is also survived by her special niece and dear friend, Deloris Kennedy and her family.
In addition to her parents and husband, Gladys was preceded in death by her daughter, Mary Ann Vincent; her grandson, Ronald Bradley Vincent; and her sister, Audrey J. Arnett-Pheasant.
Friends may call at the Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 2 to 9 p.m. and at the Trinity Assembly of God Church on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the Trinity Assembly of God Church with Pastor Richard Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.
Gladys’s family would like to extend a heartfelt “Thank you” to the staff of the Arbors of Fairmont for the warm and loving care given to their mother and grandmother during her illness.
