N. Jean Swiger, 72, of Fairview, passed away Monday (Feb. 5, 2007) at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a brief illness.
Jean was born in Mt. Harmony, the daughter of the late Joseph Earl “Mike” and Edna Dennison Tennant.
Jean was a graduate of Fairview High School Class of 1952. Upon graduation, she moved to Washington, D.C., and worked for the FBI. On Dec. 13, 1952, she married her husband of 54 years, Claude J. “Carbide” Swiger Jr.
In addition to her husband Jean is survived by six children, Joseph Swiger and his wife Rose of Fairmont, Juanita Fox Hennen and her husband Randy, Mary Williams and her husband Gary, Jim Swiger and his wife Elva, all of Fairview, John Swiger and his wife Julie of Clarksburg and Alice Milliron and fiancé Danny Whinnie of Barrackville; and former daughter-in-law, Ann Swiger of Fairview; 17 grandchildren, April Williams, Wendi Shahan and her husband Brad, Mindy Statler and her husband Jason, Andrea Bland and her husband Steve, Angie Swiger, Ashley Williams, John Swiger Jr., Joseph Swiger and his wife Amy, Jim Swiger II, Christopher Milliron, Clarence Swiger, Katy Swiger, Alisha Williams, Becky, Connie, Harold, and Katie Swiger; four step-grand-children, Kenny Beckman, Stacia Shaw and her husband Mike, Rif Hennen and his wife Theresa, Sarif Hennen; seven great-grandchildren, Ivie, Levi, Celeste, Kenly, Gavin, Gabriel and Kameryn; five great-step-grandchildren, Mya, Shane, Noelle, Tanner, and Raylee. Also surviving is a sister and brother-in-law Mary and Jack Smith of Newport News, Va.; and a brother and sister-in-law, James and Betty Tennant of Sunset Beach, N.C.; a sister-in-law, Mary Belle Foley of Elyria, Ohio; several nieces and nephews and cousins.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sons-in-law, Kenneth Fox and Randy Milliron.
Jean devoted her life supporting her children and their activities. She was a Cub Scout leader, active in the PTA, active band booster, active member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Fairview, where she was a Sunday School supertendant, a member of United Methodist Women Paw Paw Parish and Bible School leader. Every Sunday after a family dinner, she played cards and board games with her grandchildren.
Friends and family may call at Domico Funeral Home, Curry Chapel, in Fairview, from 1-8 p.m. Thursday. The body will lie in state at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Fairview from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. The funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Friday at the church with Dr. John Conaway officiating. Burial will follow at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be sent to Asbury United Methodist Church in Fairview.
