Donald Burton “Brownie” Brown Sr.

Donald Burton “Brownie” Brown Sr., 68, of Fairview and formerly of Newark, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his residence on Sunday (Jan. 7, 2007).

He was born June 27, 1938, in Fairmont, the son of Burton E. and Pansy Greenwood Brown.

Brownie was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, coach and avid sports enthusiast. He loved to play cards, dominos, volleyball, softball and golf, and was an avid fisherman and hunter. He loved to teach all children the love of games, sports and good fellowship.

He retired from the Newark Fire Department with 33 years of service and prior to that he was employed by Bartlite Asphalt. He was also a veteran of the Newark Division of the National Guard.

He is survived by his second wife, Darlene Patrick Brown; two daughters, Tammy Rickett, and Sheri and husband Ralph Gutridge; one son, Donald B. Brown Jr.; four grandchildren, Michael Gutridge, Ashley Rickett and Tiffany Rickett, and Daniel Gutridge and fiancée Crystal; two stepsons, Larry DeNoon, and Chris DeNoon and wife Annmarie; four stepgrandchildren, Christian, Bryce, Cainen and Bryar DeNoon; two sisters, Shirley Benson and Florence Galbraith; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Stoots Brown; and two sisters, Martha Pharis and Marjorie Able.

Services will be held at Criss Schoedinger Funeral Home in Newark, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the Madison Volunteer Fire Department, 51 First St. NE, Newark, OH 43055. Hutson Funeral Home in Farmington is entrusted with local arrangements.
