Mary Katherine Oliverio Cavrich, 86, of Fairmont, passed away Wednesday (Feb. 27, 2013) at Fairmont General Hospital.
She was born Jan. 1, 1927 in Everson, daughter of the late John and Angeline (Lucente) Oliverio.
Katherine entered the workforce as an assistant manager at the Virginia Theatre. She was a cashier for A&P Grocery Store, where she retired after 30 years of service in 1981.
She later was employed as a cashier in the cafeteria at Fairmont State College from 1983 to 1996. She was a longtime member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church in Fairmont.
Katherine became a resident of Genesis Health Care Center in 2006, where she became known by her first name, Mary. She was well liked there and had many friends. She always enjoyed playing bingo, blackjack and especially enjoyed her bus trips to Atlantic City with the Senior Citizens of Marion County whenever she was able.
Katherine is survived by her loving sister, Joan Oliverio Minarich and husband John of Willoughby, Ohio; three children, Frances Testa Wade and husband Gary of Duluth, Ga., Angela Cavrich Jackson and husband Robert Lee “Buster” of Fairmont, and Stephen Cavrich and wife Wendy, also of Fairmont; five grandchildren, Wendy Wade of Duluth, Ga., Jason Satterfield of Fairmont, Christopher Satterfield of Irwin, Pa., Leesa Jackson of Fairmont and Stephen Cavrich II of Fairmont; and three great-grandchildren, Harrison and Halle Hewes of Duluth, Ga., and Marlei Katherine Marie Satterfield of Fairmont. She is also survived by her lifelong friend, Rose Police Alvaro of Fairmont.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Oliverio of Fairmont and Louis J. Oliverio of Philadelphia, Pa.
The family will receive friends at Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave. in Fairmont, from 5-8 p.m. today, and from 3-5 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. Friday, with a vigil service being held at 7:30 p.m. Friday. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Father Robert Perriello as celebrant. Entombment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens Mausoleum in Fairmont.
The family requests donations be made in Mary Katherine’s name to St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, 407 Jackson St., Fairmont, WV 26554.
