Ingeborg Gudrun Gourhan, 74, of Fairmont and formerly of Alaska, passed away Friday (Oct. 5, 2012) at Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown.
She was born in Germany on Sept. 17, 1938, a daughter of the late Michael and Gertrude (Poike) Reeber.
Ingeborg came to the U.S. in 1959. She spent much of her adult life in Anchorage, Alaska, before moving to Fairmont. She had many occupations from telephone operator to teacher.
She loved to find beauty in all the things around her. She also loved to create beautiful things, whether it was through painting, embroidery or song. Inge devoted her life to God and was a active member of Agape Church in Anchorage, and she attended Life United Methodist Church Faith Campus in Fairmont.
She is survived by one son, James Michael Robinson of Dickson, Tenn.; a step-son, Danny Gourhan; three daughters, Sylvia Ann Hawkins and her husband Lester of Fairmont, Christine Glavin of Washnougle, Wash., and Linda Kelly of Anchorage, Alaska; a step-daughter, Denise Gourhan; her grandchildren, Brandon Robinson, Daniel Glavin, Johnny Glavin, Mark Kelly, Amanda Hawkins Wright, Steve Wright, Cassandra Hawkins and Joshua Hawkins, who all lovingly referred to her as “Grammy” or “Gramcakes;” and three great-grandchildren, Serena, Alexa and Mark.
Also surviving is a sister, Heidrun Biedebach of Germany.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husbands, James William Robinson and Sid Gourhan, and a sister, Edda Brodde.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 1-8 p.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday at 2 p.m. with Rev. Clyde Beard officiating.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, her body will be cremated following the service.
Memorial contributions may be made to Life UMC Homebound Visitation Program, Morgantown Hospice and/or to Sundale Nursing Home in Morgantown.
