James Edward Shaner

FAIRMONT — James Edward Shaner, 75, of Lemont Furnace, Pa., passed away Sunday (April 15, 2012) in LaFayette Manor.

Jim was born in Connellsville, Pa., son of James Edward Shaner Sr. (deceased) and Virginia Singo Shaner (deceased).

Jim was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church in Uniontown. He graduated from Uniontown High School with the Class of 1955. Jim graduated from Fairmont State University with a degree in education and physical education, and a master’s degree in education from West Virginia University. He was a member of TKE fraternity. Jim taught and coached at Uniontown Senior High School. He taught for Intermediate Unit I at Connellsville High School. He owned and operated Ye Olde Inn Restaurant. He recently retired as a state representative in the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.

Jim is survived by his wife, Mabel Jeanette Shaner, and a daughter, Shawn Ivann Pfrogner and her husband Robert of Uniontown; brother, Dwight Shaner and wife Linda of Dunbar, Pa.; nieces, Ms. Keri Cook and children, Mrs. Soni Mancuso and husband Dan and children of Connellsville, and Dr. Jodi Kollias and husband Dr. Christopher Kollias and children of Crofton, Md.; sister-in-law, Ms. Ossie Kline and Mr. Michael Debate of Fairmont; nephew, Mr. Carl Haught and family of Kentucky; sister-in-law, Mrs. Judy Ozie and husband Pete of Fairmont; niece, Mrs. Kristi Latocha and husband Steve and children of Fairmont; nephew, Mr. Pat Ozie and wife Liza and children of Fairmont; niece, Ms. Darenda Moore and family of Morgantown; nephews, Mr. Jeff Gum and family, and Mr. William Gum and family of Daybrook; special family, Mr. and Mrs. Christopher Russell and children of Connellsville, Pa., and Ms. Charlene Stillwagon and son Christopher Russell of Connellsville, Pa.; and special friends, Mr. Emidio Crocetti of Dunbar, Pa., and Pennsylvania State Rep. Chris Sainato of New Castle.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Andrew D. Ferguson Funeral Home Inc., 80 Morgantown St., Uniontown, Pa., where the family will receive friends from 2-8 p.m. Wednesday. Visitation will continue from 10-11 a.m. Thursday in Asbury United Methodist Church,  where a service celebrating Jim’s life will be held at 11 a.m. with Pastor Don Kephart officiating. Interment will follow in Greenridge Memorial Park, Connellsville, Pa.
