Ray Michael Tatterson, 74, of Fairmont, passed away Monday (July 2, 2012) at his home with his wife at his side.
He was born in Fairmont on May 21, 1938, a son of the late Claude J. and Evelyn Louise (Bunner) Tatterson.
Ray proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force for four years. He was an attorney-at-law by trade and most recently worked on restoring houses.
He was a graduate of East Fairmont High School and Fairmont State University and obtained his law degree from West Virginia University. He had a passion for restoring houses, refinishing furniture, building and carpentry and was an avid fan of opera. He was owner of an antique mall in Charlotte, N.C., and he was a member of the Elks Lodge.
He is survived by his loving wife, Carol Louise (Cornwell) Tatterson of Fairmont; his sons, Mark Allen and his wife Kelly, James F., Andy and his fiancé Loretta, and Michael and his wife Brandy; his daughter, Melissa Tatterson; and eight grandchildren, Teri Lee, William, Amanda, James, Bradley, Megan, Kailin and Matthew.
Also surviving is a brother, Joseph Tatterson and his wife Judith of Colfax; and his mother-in-law, Genny Elswick of Fairmont.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers, Claude Junior Tatterson Jr. in infancy, James Henry Tatterson in infancy, Thomas Eugene Tatterson and Lawrence Frederick Tatterson.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with Pastor Jim Zinn officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont, where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
