Thomas Kuretza Sr.

Thomas Kuretza Sr., 87, of Grant Town, died Friday (Jan. 18, 2013) at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility, Clarksburg.

He was born on Oct. 29, 1925, in Coxstone, Ky., the son of the late Charles and Anna Zuer Kuretza. He was preceeded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Welch Kuretza.

Mr. Kuretza is survived by his daughter, Mary Ann Kuretza of Grant Town; a brother-in-law and wife, Bob and Dianne Welch of Fairmont; a sister-in-law, Theresa Kuretza of Fairmont; nieces and nephews, Laura and Bruce Bennett of Fairmont, Thomas and Dioselenia Welch of Parkersburg, Stephany and Gary Southern of Fairmont, Charles and Marjorie Kuretza of Fairmont, Gloria Freda of Brooklyn, N.Y., and James and Cheryl Congiglo of Garrison, N.Y.; and several great-nieces and nephews.

He was preceeded in death by a son, Thomas Kuretza Jr.; two sisters, Mary Andrysiaki and Anna Congiglo; and three brothers, Franklin, Stephen and Nicholas Kuretza.

Mr. Kuretza was retired from the Owens-Illinois in Volney, N.Y. in 1983. He also worked for the company in Fairmont and in New Orleans, La.

Tom was a WWII veteran, having served in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of Fairmont Lodge No. 9 A.F. & A.M. Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite of Freemasonry, S.J., New Orleans, La., member of the American Legion Post 17 in Fairmont, member and Past Worthy Patron of the Order of the Eastern Star No. 34 in Fairmont and member of the Ballah Chapel United Methodist Church in Grant Town.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 122 South High St., Morgantown, WV 26505.

The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, 207 Second St., Rivesville, on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday at 11 a.m. with Chaplain Johnny F. Payne, pastor at the West Virginia Veterans Nursing Facility, officiating. The committal service will follow at the Nuzum Cemetery in the Levels Community in Marion County. Full military funeral honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the Military Veterans Council of Marion County. Masonic ritualistic services will be conducted at graveside by the Fairmont Lodge No. 9 A.F. & A.M.
