Maria Painter

Maria Emperdao Lopez Painter, known as Pearl, lived a long, full life and went to be with her father in heaven Friday (Jan. 4, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital.

Pearl is survived by her only child, Susan Painter Konya and husband William Konya of Fairmont. Pearl had three grandchildren, Shawn and wife Stephanie Konya of Bunner Ridge, Jeremy and wife Heather James of Chantilly, Va., and Lt. Trista Konya of Virginia Beach, Va., where she just returned from deployment on the USS Dwight D. Eisenhower; as well as two great-grandsons, Clayton and Connor Konya.

She is survived by one sister, Margaret Vanover of New York; and several nieces and nephews and family from Spain.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jacque and Maria Garcia Lopez; and four siblings, Jack, Manuel, Isabela and Sadie.

Her loving and kind husband, Harrison Phillip Painter, a World War II veteran, died in 1981. His final words to his daughter were to “take care of your mother.”

Pearl was a lifelong resident of Mannington and made her home at Mohans Run. She loved walking, gardening and bird and wildlife watching. Pearl volunteered for her church, Marion County Senior Citizens, Clothes Closet and the Friary in Morgantown.

She was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Mannington and also enjoyed attending Mannington Church of Christ, whose congregation reached out to her with open and loving arms.

In later years, she lived with her daughter and was later a resident at the Arbors in Fairmont.

She was extremely fortunate to live a long and healthy life. She loved life passionately and enjoyed her journey in this life. We have been blessed to know her and loved her.

Funeral services were held at Masters Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday. Burial will follow at Mannington Memorial Park Cemetery.
