Muriel Smillie

Muriel I. Smillie, 86, of Liberty Township, Ohio, died Saturday (Jan. 5, 2013) in her daughter’s home.

Born Aug. 4, 1926 in Louisville, Ky., she was a daughter of the late Mitchell and Venus Crozier Irvin and the widow of Edward W. Smillie.

Mrs. Smillie was a graduate of Nyack College, New York. Her husband formerly served as district superintendent to the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Charlotte, N.C. He also formerly was a CMA pastor in Fairmont and Raleigh, N.C.

She is survived by one son, Dr. Gene Rodger Smillie and his wife Susan of Chicago; one daughter, Martha L. Bunner and her husband Richard of Liberty Township, Ohio; one sister, Helen Sawyer of Carlisle, Pa.; one brother, Dr. Maurice Irvin of Norwalk, Conn.; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Muriel was preceded in death by two brothers, Melvin and Donald Irvin.

A memorial service will be announced at a later date. Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
