Thelma M. Boyce, 87, of Fairmont, passed away Friday (July 13, 2012) at Pierpont Center at Fairmont.
She was born in Fairmont on April 29, 1925, a daughter of the late Reuben Poe and Eula Ruth (Matthew) Ford.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ervin Earl Boyce, in November 1993.
Thelma was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her earlier years, she had worked as a home health aide and also at Fairmont Supply and Adams Office Supply. She was a Protestant by faith and attended Mount Harmony Church, where she loved singing in the choir, as well as several other churches in the Fairmont area. She sang with the Song Birds singing group and enjoyed spending time with her family, baking bread and pies for all occasions, and card night with her children.
She is survived by five sons, Ronald Ervin Boyce of Fairmont, Donald Lee Boyce and his wife Louise of Fairmont, Leonard Ray Boyce and his wife Lisa of Fairmont, William R. Boyce and his wife Debra, and Stanley Boyce and his wife Kim of Fairmont; four daughters, Melissa Lenhart and her husband Chuck of Fairmont, Linda Walton and her husband Roy of Fairmont, Marilyn Thompson of Fairmont, and Melanie Brown and her husband Garry of Clarksburg; 23 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving are a brother, Allen Ford of Virginia; a sister, Mildred Harper of Illinois; and two sisters-in-law, Merle Ford and Elsie Ford.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by three brothers, one in infancy, Raymond Ford and Marvin Ford; two infant children, Steven Lee Boyce and Carolyn Fay Boyce; one grandson, Quinten J. Boyce; one granddaughter, Tiffany Ann Brown; a sister, Betty Ford; and a brother-in-law, Bernard Harper.
The family would like to thank the staff of Pierpont Nursing Center and Amedisys Hospice for their care of our mother.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Monday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Monday with Pastor Ronald Ford, her cousin, officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Zion Cemetery in Fairmont.
