William E. “Bill” Lawson

William Eugene “Bill” Lawson, 70, of Fairmont, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday (July 25, 2012) at his home.

He was born in Weston on Oct. 16, 1941, a son of the late Rev. David E. “Gene” and Williadean Mae (Barbe) Lawson.

Bill proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force for four years, based in Amarillo, Texas. He was retired from Chessie Railroad, where he worked as a mechanic and diesel repair track man with 20 years of service. In his earlier years he had also worked at Owens-Illinois. He enjoyed tinkering with cars and machines, flying model gas airplanes, fishing with his companion Mary Sanders and going to auctions and meeting people there.

He was a loving and wonderful father and grandfather. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. His love filled their hearts and created many smiles and memories on their lives. He loved his church and was a member of the Central Nazarene Church in Fairmont where he was a Sunday School teacher.

Bill is survived by his daughter, Julie Ann Lawson and her partner Melissa Shea of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Avery Shea-Lawson, Addison Shea-Lawson and Emerson Shea-Lawson; and his companion, Mary Sanders of Fairmont.

Also surviving is his former wife and the mother of his daughter, Deloris Perkins Jackson and her husband Donald of Fairmont; a sister, Roberta Sharlene Holt and her husband Ronald of Grafton; a brother-in-law, Robert J. Crites of Lewisburg, three nieces and a nephew, Dr. Debra Sams of Lewisburg, Shelia Loftis of Charleston, Ronalene Deligatti of Grafton and Bob DeRiggi of Kingwood; as well as several other loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Carol Lawson Crites, and a daughter in infancy, Tracy Sue Lawson.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, today from 1-8 p.m. and Saturday from 10-11 a.m. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Saturday at 11 a.m. with Pastor Doug Hendrixon officiating.
