Mark Talkington

Mark James Talkington, 90, of Mod’s Run, Mannington, passed away Monday (Sept. 3, 2012) at Louis A. Johnson Veterans Administration Medical Center in Clarksburg.

He was born Nov. 13, 1921 at Rachel, a son of the late Dale and Grace Forney Talkington.

He is survived by six children and their spouses, Marquita and Vincent Graziani of Pittsburgh, Ronnie and Dodi Talkington of Mannington, Janet and Eric Garner of Mannington, Philip and Sonja Talkington of Michigan, David and Angie Talkington of Mannington, and Mark and Carla of Mannington; grandchildren, including Alicia and husband Douglas Miers, Benjamin K. and Melissa Shearer, Kaitlyn Talkington, Dakota Talkington, Erica Laughlin, Ian Laughlin, Faith Prince, Phillip Talkington, Cora Jean “JC” Talkington, Kaleigh Talkington, Delanie Talkington, Miranda Talkington and Jeffrey Fluharty; and nine great-grandchildren. He was also survived by two special friends, Paul Phillips and Russell Garner.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Talkington was preceded in death by his wife of 21 years, Mary Talkington; and one brother, Jack Talkington.

Mr. Talkington was a prisoner of war serving with the U.S. Army in World War II. He was retired from Eastern Associated Coal Co., JoAnne mine at Rachel. He attended Plum Run United Methodist Church. He spent most of his life farming on the Talkington Farm at Mod’s Run.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the West Virginia National Cemetery at Grafton.

The family requests that memorial donations be made to the West Virginia National Cemetery, Route 2 Box 127, Grafton, WV 26354.
