Bruce Glass

Bruce Lamar Glass was born on Sept. 14, 1962, in Chicago, Ill., to the late Huey and Evelyn Glass. He was one of seven children. Bruce finished his race on Monday (March 4, 2013) at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta, Ga.

At a very young age, and upon the death of his parents, Bruce and four of his siblings relocated to Fairmont where they were raised by their maternal grandparents, the late Rush and Catherine Merchant.

Growing up in West Virginia, Bruce was a member of Miles Chapel Methodist Church. He graduated from West Fairmont Senior High School in 1980 after which he joined the U.S. Air Force. Bruce made a career of the Air Force and often attributed his strong work ethic, discipline and determination to that experience.

Some years later, Bruce pursued and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Barrington University.

Bruce possessed an entrepreneurial spirit and amazing business acumen.  Therefore, when he left the military, he began to pursue many opportunities for self-employment to include, ownership of several clothing stores, a restaurant and a car wash. Bruce enjoyed great success as an entrepreneur and, over the years, inspired many young adults to pursue a similar career path.

Bruce met the love of his life, Ronnie Kaigler, in Phoenix, Ariz., in 1993. Their love was a special love, an agape love based on a mutual decision to love each other unconditionally and selflessly. Bruce and Ronnie married on Oct. 22, 2007.

Circumstances in Bruce’s life provided him with the opportunity to mentor many young men. Through mentoring, he shared his love for Christ. Bruce also taught Bible study classes and organized Black History Month events during his time with the fellows.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Huey and Evelyn Glass, and one sister, Carolyn James.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife Ronnie Glass; two children, Veanna Henderson of Elyria, Ohio, and Shaun Jones of Upper Marlboro, Md. In addition, Bruce is survived by five siblings, Huey Glass Jr. of Minneapolis, Minn., Marilyn Glass of Fairmont, Catherine Glass of Minneapolis, Minn., Pamela Glass Clark of Sicklerville, N.J., and James Glass of Morgantown.

Further, Bruce leaves three grandchildren, Ahjeer, Honesty and Knowledge; five maternal aunts and one maternal uncle; one special cousin, Christopher Dorsey of Fairmont; and a host of other loved ones including a loving mother-in-law, Arrie Robinson of Byram, Miss.; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Bruce will be remembered for his dedication to his wife and family, a great sense of humor and a million dollar smile, his extreme generosity, a resolve to follow peace and most importantly, his strong faith in God.

Homegoing service for Mr. Bruce Lamar Glass of Atlanta, Ga., at 1 p.m. Saturday at Watkins Historic West End Chapel, 1003 Ralph David Abernathy Boulevard, Atlanta, Ga., Rev. R.L. White, officiating. Interment, Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at Shady Grove MBC Cemetery, Osyka, Miss. Family and friends are asked to assemble at 12:45 p.m. at the chapel.
