John T. Fleming

John Thomas Fleming, 69, of Morgantown, Suncrest Community, formerly of Charleston, passed away at his home on Friday (March 1, 2013).

He was born in Fairmont on May 25, 1943, a son of the late Alvis Eugene Fleming and Margaret (Thomas) Fleming.

John is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra (Trader) Fleming.

He graduated from Rivesville High School and West Virginia University with a degree in chemical engineering. He retired after 39 years of service with the Union Carbide Plant in Charleston.

John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. In addition to his family, John enjoyed farming.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six of his seven children, his sons and their wives, John and Virginia Fleming of Charleston, Bryan and Jackie Fleming of Rivesville, Mark Fleming of Kentucky, Dr. Anthony Fleming of Carrollton, Ga., and Ryan and Anna Fleming of Carrollton, Ga.; his daughter and husband, Shelley and Ken Mowry of Milwaukee, Wis.; 16 special grandchildren, Jessie Fleming, Chase Fleming, Aaron Fleming, Adam Fleming, Andrew Fleming, Aubrey Fleming, Bryanna Fleming, Caleb Fleming, Talan Fleming, Tyler Stottlemire, Gayle Fleming, Jordan Fleming, Robin Fleming, Brennan Mowry, Alexis Mowry and Reyna Henderson; and six great-grandchildren, Michael Fleming, Emilia Fleming, Maddison Fleming, Elizabeth Fleming, McKenna Fleming and Gavin Fleming.

Also surviving are his brother, James David Fleming of Rivesville; his sisters, Jean Phillips of Gautier, Miss., and Janet Atchinson of Benton’s Ferry; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Tara Fleming in infancy, and his father-in-law and mother-in law, Lawrence “Barney” Trader and Naomi R. (Clark) Trader.

John’s family would like to thank Amedesys Hospice for the wonderful care and support during his illness.

Friends may call at the Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, on Monday from 1-6 p.m. and Tuesday 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The funeral service will be on Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home with Chaplain Craig Falkenstine officiating. Interment will follow at the Catawba Cemetery in Marion County.
