David Wilson Canfield (Sept. 10, 1926-Feb. 24, 2013), 86, passed away Sunday, Feb. 24, after fighting a brave battle with cancer.
He leaves his wife of 66 years, Betty (Shaffer) Canfield; sons, Daniel and Richard; and daughter, Shona. He has four grandchildren, Jeff, Jason, Martin and Morgan. He has three great-grandchildren, Camdyn, Madison and Isaiah.
Born and raised in Fairmont, the son of Harry and Mable Plum, he was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Johnny.
David served 22 years in the U.S. Navy and was in three wars, World War II, Korea and the Vietnam War. He was a federal firefighter for 20 years in San Diego and was the president of IAFF Local F-33. He was also the Sixteenth District VP of the International Association of Fire Fighters.
David enjoyed gardening, wood carving and keeping in touch with friends and family online. He especially loved spending time with his loved ones.
Memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at Grace Baptist Church, 10th and Union in Kennewick, Wash.
In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to “Hospice at the Chaplaincy,” 2108 W. Entiat Ave. in Kennewick, WA 99336.
