Charles Edward Townsend

FAIRMONT —  

Charles Edward Townsend, 65, of Mount Storm (formerly of Hagan’s), died Monday (March 15, 2010) at the Garrett Memorial Hospital in Garrett County, Md.

He was born Dec. 8, 1944, in Marion County, a son of the late Creed Townsend and Dona Riffle Townsend of Bellview.

Mr. Townsend was a member of the Hagans Christian Church in Hagans. He was a 1963 graduate of Morgantown High School. He was a member of the Army National Guard where he retired with 20 years of service as part of the 201st National Guard out of Fairmont. He also retired from the Teamsters Union Local No. 453 and was a member of the Morgantown Moose No. 264 and was a social member of the VFW Post No. 6735. In his free time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved to read Westerns.

In addition to his mother, Mr. Townsend is survived by two daughters, both of Hagans, Annetta Johnson and her husband Randy and Charla Blosser and her husband Ben. He is survived by his former wife of 40 years, Bonita Miller of Sabraton; three brothers, Kenny Townsend and his wife Sandy of McCurdysville, Richard Townsend and his wife Joy of Farmington and Bill Townsend and his wife Kate of North Carolina; two sisters, Freda Kelley of Fairmont and Veta Cottrill and her husband Ed of Clarksburg; four grandchildren, James Hall and his fiancée Sierra, April Hall and Christian Blosser, all of Hagans, and Randi Lynn Johnson of Star City. Mr. Townsend’s last years were spent in Mount Storm with his special friend Jeanette Sue Conrad.

In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his brother, Delmas Townsend.

Friends may visit at Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Second and Jasper streets, Rivesville, from 3 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Isaac Harmon officiating. Interment will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery in Arnettsville.
