Charles Brady Linn, 94, of Rt. 6, Glady Creek Road, Fairmont passed away Tuesday (Jan. 29, 2013) at Grafton City Hospital in Grafton after a brief illness.

He was born March 8, 1918, the eldest son of the late Harriet I. Linn. Brady worked for the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier for 42 years, delivering mail on Route 1, Hammond and Route 6, Fairmont, initially delivering on foot, sometimes on horseback and later by Jeep and finally in his familiar Ford Broncos. He saw many of his patrons grow up to have families of their own. He was a member of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association. He retired in 1983.

He was one extraordinary man, who was dearly loved by his two daughters, Carol L. Rosier Rich (deceased) and Judy A. Johnson of Fairmont. Brady was the patriarch to a five-generation family which includes three grandchildren, Michael L. Rosier of Fairmont, Leslie M. (Linn) Evans of Montrose, Colo., and Karl E. Johnson of Fairmont; three great-grandchildren, Jonathan D. Evans of Los Angeles, Calif., Michael L. Rosier II of Greenville, S.C., and Alexis R. Cornwell of Grand Junction, Colo.; and two great-great-grandchildren, Ethan and Grace Evans of Long Beach, Calif.

Brady was the oldest son of nine children. He is survived by siblings, Madaline (Linn) Wolfe of Garrettsville, Ohio, Bernadine D. Linn of Fairmont and Clarabelle (Linn) Musgrove of Fairmont, a sister-in-law, Annalee Linn of Fairmont ;and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

In addition to his mother and daughter, he was preceded in death by his siblings and in-laws, Mildred (Jesse) Satterfield, Beulah (Pete) Williams, Mabel (Calvin) McRobie, John Junior Linn and Eugene G. Linn as well as in-laws, Harry Wolfe, Mary M. Linn and Gerald F. Musgrove; his estranged wife, Marjorie Phillips Linn in 1962; as well as a special uncle and aunt, John Sylvanus Linn and Mary Anzy Linn; and a special brother and sister-in-law, James and Freda McKinney.

Brady proudly served his country with the U.S. Marines Corps during WW II from February 1945 to June 1946 and was stationed for a time in Tsingtao, China. He was a 1937 graduate of East Fairmont High School. He was a member of the VFW Post 629 and a former member of the Fairmont Moose.

He was the family buckwheat cake baker, and his cakes were savored by many family members. He enjoyed gardening and raised delicious potatoes for many years as well as growing roses and other beautiful flowers. Never a man to remain idle, he worked in the hayfield with his brothers and mowed grass with a push mower. A gifted carpenter and mechanic, he helped construct his own home as well as that of his daughter, grandson Mike and those of many other family members. He was always there to assist Leslie, Karl, Jonathan, Michael and Alexis with their latest project and teaching them each things they will cherish forever. He was generous and kind and enjoyed feeding the deer and birds. He will be remembered fondly by many who knew him.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont from 1-8 p.m. today and from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at noon on Saturday, with Pastor Rex Musgrove officiating.

Interment will follow at Linn Family Cemetery in Marion County where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
