Madelyn Mae Phillips, 75, of Rivesville, went to be with the Lord on Sunday (Jan. 20, 2013) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Dec. 29, 1937 in Rivesville, a daughter of the late Orin and Marie (Fast) Eddy.
Madelyn was a member of Rivesville Free Methodist Church, where she had served as Sunday school superintendent, Sunday school teacher, WMI president and held many other positions. She was a member of the WCTU and she also participated in the YWCA doing ceramics and many other crafts. Madelyn was an avid reader, loved to travel and enjoyed God’s beautiful creation.
Madelyn graduated with the Class of 1955 from Rivesville High School. After graduation from Fairmont Business College, she worked for Amos, Amos and Webb.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Earl Phillips.
She is survived by four sisters and spouses, Alice and Jack Lemley of Rivesville, with whom she made her home, Faith and Randy Reesman of Rivesville, Marilyn and Jim Rhoades of Fairview, and Carolyn and Norman McCoy of Ohio; two brothers and spouses, Robert and Holly Eddy of Rivesville, and Lorin and Judy Eddy of Virginia; and one sister-in-law, Virginia Gillespie of Fairmont. She was the beloved aunt of 26 nieces and nephews and more than 60 great-nieces and -nephews.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Adam Stuck and Pastor Paul Morris officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
