Amy Arnett

On Sunday (Jan. 20, 2013), God received a new angel in heaven, Amy Marie Arnett, 97, of Rivesville.

She was born Sept. 12, 1915 in Weston, a daughter of the late Jacob Anderson and Julia Ann Davisson Grogg.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Joseph E. Arnett Sr.; a son, Joseph E. Arnett Jr.; and son-in-law, Robert L. Saffle Sr.

Mrs. Arnett was a member of Rivesville United Methodist Church, where she was active in the Women’s Society, was a Sunday school teacher and served on various committees. Mrs. Arnett was formerly a homemaker and employee of the Consolidation Coal Co. Champion Store at Arkwright. She and her husband were also the owner and operator for more than 35 years of the Arnett Poultry Farm in Rivesville. She was the founder and former chairwoman of the Rivesville Senior Citizens Association.

Mrs. Arnett is survived by three daughters, Shirley Saffle of Canton, Ohio, JoAnn Corley and her husband Warren of Rivesville, and Eleanor Toothman and her husband Richard of Fairmont; and eight grandchildren, Larry Corley, Joyce Corley, Brian Corley, Robert Saffle Jr., Sharon Cottrell, Sharlene Dennisoff, Joan Grubler and Rick Toothman. Mrs. Arnett is also survived by 17 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Arnett was the last surviving member of her family and was preceded in death by five brothers and three sisters.

Friends and family may visit Ford Funeral Home, DeGarmo Chapel, Jasper Street, Rivesville, from 2-9 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at Rivesville United Methodist Church, Third and Jasper streets, Rivesville, at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. Stanley Merrifield and Pastor Amanda Reed officiating. Interment will follow at Arnettsville Cemetery in Arnettsville.

The family of Mrs. Arnett would like to thank the staff of St. Barbara’s Memorial Nursing Home in Monongah for all their love and care.
