FAIRMONT —
Carol Leona Dennis Phillips, 72, of Fairmont, passed away Tuesday (Jan. 8, 2013) at her residence.
She was born in Fairmont on Aug. 7, 1940, a daughter of the late Harry “Steve” and Velma Simmons Dennis Fink.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, James E. Phillips.
Mrs. Phillips had been a member of the Oakwood Road Church of Christ. She was a 1960 graduate of Lost Creek High School. Carol was retired as a machine operator, previously working at Barefoot and Sole in Wadsworth, Ohio.
She enjoyed bowling locally for many years and held several local and state offices within the Women’s Bowling Association. She also was a member of the National Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by her husband, James Phillips; two sons, David W. Phillips and his companion Peg Cunningham of Lumberport, and James E. Phillips II of Fairmont; her step-grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Bill Phillips and his wife Barbara of Wadsworth, Ohio; a sister-in-law, Sue Toothman of Clarksburg; aunt and uncle, Jenny and Al Howard of Chillicothe, Ohio; as well as several cousins, nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her special friend and caregiver, Connie Conklin.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her brother, Charles William “Sonny” Dennis.
Friends and family may call Ford Funeral Home, Ford Chapel, 201 Columbia St., Fairmont, from noon to 8 p.m. Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 1 p.m. Saturday with the Rev. Harry R. Jenkins officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Fairmont.
