Julia Martin

Mary Julia Martin, 89, of Grant Town, died Wednesday (March 6, 2013) at her residence.

She was born in Grant Town on Nov. 6, 1923, daughter of Frank and Mary Meneci Sabatino.

Julia was a member of St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, and a former member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Grant Town and the church Altar Society. She was also a member of the Ladies Auxillary VFW 629 and the Grant Town Senior Citizen’s Outreach. Mary was formerly employed at Kopper Company Store in Grant Town. She was an avid gardener, bird watcher and animal lover. Mary enjoyed cooking and watching sports.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary Frances Martin of Fairmont; nephew, Frank Sabatino; and niece, Connie Sabatino (Dan) Erdeljac. Also surviving are niece, Mary (Lou) DiBiaggio of State College, Pa.; beloved sister-in-law, Ethel (Sherman) Martin Hardesty of Fairmont; her niece’s husband, Russell Yann of Fairmont; her nephew’s wife, Tush Sabatino of Ellwood City, Pa.; and several great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews and close friend Stella Belotsky.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Wayne Junior Martin; brothers, Ralph (Mae) Sabatino of Ellwood City, Pa., and James (Rose) Sabatino of Grant Town; and nephews, Patsy Sabatino of Ellwood City, Pa., and Frank Sabatino also of Ellwood City, Pa. She is also preceded in death by nieces Carol Sabatino and Rose Mary Sabatino Yann, and her lifelong friend of 82 years, Anna May Hlusko Belotsky.

Friends may call at Ross Funeral Home, 801 Fairmont Ave., Fairmont, on Sunday from 1-9 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday at 11 a.m. at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church with Fr. Robert A. Perriello as Celebrant. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens.

A vigil service will be held Sunday at 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be great-nephews Joe Sabatino, Russell Yann, great-great-nephews Christopher Galambus, and dear friends Donnie Lee Tucker, James Sonnenberg and Jimmy Blankenship.
