Rev. Cone relocated to the Washington, D.C., area in the early 1980s. While there, she became a member of the New Samaritan Baptist Church and continued to lend her musical talents to different choirs as a director and musician.

Later, she retired on disability in the mid 1990s and relocated to Atlanta, Ga. She then became a member of Zion Baptist Church of Marietta, Ga. under the leadership of Pastor Harris T. Travis.

In addition to her continued musical contributions, she received her Certificate of License to preach on Sept. 1, 1998 and Certificate of Ordination on April 16, 2000.
