Douglas ‘Pat’ Winemiller Sr.

Douglas “Pat” Bruce Winemiller Sr., 79, of Plum Run Community, passed away Saturday (Dec. 8, 2012) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born in Marion County on April 18, 1933, a son of the late Charles Winemiller and Lula (Davis) Winemiller.

Pat is survived by his loving wife, Louise (Riddle) Winemiller. The couple was married 60 years this Christmas.

He served his country in the U.S. Army active duty and reserve. He retired from the United States Steel plant in Lorain, Ohio, with 30 years of service as a crane operator and foreman.

Pat was a member of the Fairmont Moose. He was a great storyteller, enjoyed playing cards and country music. He was very fond of auction sales and traveling to flea markets.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, his son, Douglas Winemiller Jr. of Texas, and his daughter, Patricia Martin of Oklahoma; a sister, Ruth Shahan of Ohio; seven grandchildren, Shawn Willey, Rita Gere, Mary Martin, Lynda Martin and Jonathan Martin, Douglas Winemiller III and Travis Winemiller; and seven great-grandchildren.

Also surviving are several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Ernest Chase, and a niece, Barbara Southern, who he helped raise; and good friends, Sandra Sliger, Howard Jones and Kris Hunt.

In addition to his parents, Douglas was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Winemiller; three sisters, Phyllis Lewis, Barbara Barnett and Thelma Helms; and two infant sisters.

Mr. Winemiller’s family would like to thank Health South, Ruby Memorial Hospital and Senior Aides of the Marion County Senior Center, especially Mary Beth Gump, for their wonderful care of Douglas during his illness.

Friends and family may call at Carpenter & Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 5-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home with Pastor Larry Kincell and Evangelist Michael Reese officiating. Interment will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover. Flag-folding rites will be conducted at the funeral home by the Marion County Military Council Honor Guard.
