Norman Reginald Pickstone

Norman Reginald Pickstone, 88, of Columbus, Ohio, died peacefully Wednesday (Dec. 5, 2012) at the Laurels of Worthington.

He was born to Joseph and Mary Curran Pickstone on Sept. 30, 1924, at Washington Township in Fayette County, Pennsylvania. He was a retired school teacher with the Monongalia County School System of West Virginia, a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a 1962 graduate of Fairmont State College, where he earned his bachelor of arts in education.

He was a World War II combat veteran who flew 25 missions over Germany in a B-17. He was active in civic affairs serving multiple terms as a city councilman and volunteer fire chief in Rivesville, where he resided for many years.

He was preceded in death by daughter, Nancy Pickstone Morgan of Fairmont; three brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by wife of 65 years, Mary Jane Riggi Pickstone; a sister, Beatty Pickstone Horton of Charleston, S.C.; sons and daughters-in-law, Dr. Stephen and Benita Pickstone of Columbus and Norman and Suzanne Pickstone of Fairmont; nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Friends may call 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Rutherford-Corbin Funeral Home, 515 High St, Worthington. Mass of Christian Burial shall take place at 10 a.m. Monday, at St. Michael Catholic Church, 5750 N. High Street, Worthington, with Father Anthony A. Dinovo, Jr. as celebrant.

Interment with military honors at Resurrection Cemetery is to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers contributions be made to Friends of the National World War II Memorial, 921 Pennsylvania Ave. SE, Suite 304, Washington, D.C., 20003 in Norman’s memory.
