Avis Blendine Parker, 87, of Monumental, passed from this life Tuesday (Dec. 4, 2012).
She was born in Monongalia County. on July 15, 1925, a daughter of the late Claude Dayton “Buster” Haught and Luverna (Park) Haught.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Elmus Clinton Parker, on July 17, 1974.
Avis was a loving homemaker, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a graduate of Clay-Battelle High School and attended Monumental United Methodist Church. She enjoyed family activities, playing the piano for gospel groups and church services for many years, and singing in the church choir.
Avis is survived by two sons, Larry Clinton Parker and his wife LuAnn (Arbogast) Parker of Boothsville, and Gordon Ray Parker and his wife Mary (Kincell) Parker of Baldwyn, Miss.; five grandchildren and their spouses, Susan (Parker) Hickman and her husband Corey of Bridgeport, Stephen Parker and his wife Crystal of Shinnston, Melissa (Parker) Thomas and her husband Jason of Salem, Ericka (Parker) Robinson and her husband Jason of Daleville, Ala., and Aaron Parker and his wife Andrea of Baldwyn, Miss.; and 10 great-grandchildren, Jarrett, Haylee and Emma Hickman, Clint Parker, Sarah Thomas, Isaiah, Tess and Levi Parker, and Gavin and Karlee Robinson.
Also surviving are two sisters-in-law, Shirley Parker and Zora (Parker) Shriver and her husband Ralph; and a brother-in-law, Denzil Parker and his wife Louise.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three great-grandchildren, Bailey Ann, Lindsey Amber and Emily Madison Hickman; her only sibling, Freda (Haught) Phillips and husband Charles; and two brothers-in-law, Delmus Parker and Dallis Parker and his wife Ruth.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. today and from 10-11 a.m. Friday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Aaron Parker and the Rev. Larry Kincell officiating. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
