Robert E. “Bob” “Pooch” Dean, 59, of Fairmont, went to be with the Lord on Saturday (Nov. 17, 2012) at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.
He was born in Fairmont on March 15, 1953, a son of Opal M. Dean of Fairmont and the late David A. Dean.
Bob proudly served six years in the National Guard 201st Field Artillery Unit. He was employed at Novelis (Alcan) Aluminum Plant in Fairmont for the last 34 1/2 years. He enjoyed riding his Ranger and hunting and fishing with his children, grandchildren and close friends. He was loved by all because of his kindness and fantastic sense of humor.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife, Linda L. (Helms) Dean; two sons, Robert E. Dean Jr. and his wife JoHannah, and Brian E. Dean and his wife Kristy; one daughter, Shelly R. Ashcraft and her husband Kevin; and 10 precious grandchildren, Justin Neel, Colby and McKinley Ashcraft, Robert “Bucky” Dean III, Gage Dean, Brittany Dean, Becca Dean, Brandon Dean, Sammie Dean and Miah Brady.
Also surviving are three sisters, Rose Bass and her husband John, Bonnie Ferrell and her husband Harry, and Katherine Musgrave; two brothers, Clyde “Butch” Dean and his wife Annabelle, and David Dean and his wife Glenda; three brothers-in-law, Richard “Beardy” Helms and his wife Linda, Randy Helms and his wife Patty, and Frank W. Helms Jr.; very close friends, Jerry Musgrove, Timmy Myers, Ben Baker, Allen McCardle, Danny VanGilder and Rick VanGilder; and numerous other nieces, nephews and friends.
A special thanks to his daughter Shelly Ashcraft, Richard Helms, Rick VanGilder, Bonnie Lilley, Pastor Steve Stemple, Pastor Eddie “Carpi” Carpenter, Pastor Timothy Carpenter, Donna Musgrove and Karen Smallwood for all their love, compassion, emotional support and time during Bob’s illness.
In keeping with the wishes of the deceased, his body will be cremated and a memorial service will be held at a later date.
Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
