Michael “Spike” Kolosoff Jr.

FAIRMONT — Michael “Spike” Kolosoff Jr., 61, of Carolina, passed away at UPMC Montefiore Hospital, Pittsburgh, Pa., Sunday (March 14, 2010) surrounded by his family after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Michael was born Aug. 30, 1948, at Four States, son of Agnes (Urich) Garcia and husband Andy of Four States and Michael Kolosoff Sr. and his wife Lynn of Tampa, Fla.

Michael was retired from Consolidated Coal, Loveridge Mine where he worked as a shift foreman. He served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam with the C Company 23rd Medical Battalion Lite Infantry Brigade Americal Division at LZ Baldy Hawk Hill as a combat medic. He was a lifetime member of Post 629 Fairmont Road Hawgs, and a former member of Fairmont Elks and Moose.

In addition to his parents, Michael is survived by his fiancee, Deborah Harr of Carolina; daughters, Mandi Jo Ralston and husband Jeff of Salisbury, N.C., and Amanda Boord and fiance Greg Apanowicz of Monongah; special cousins, Lou and Valerie Koldres of Carolina, Connie Cameon of Fairmont, Retta Herron of Monongah, and Donnie Cunningham of Rosemont; aunts and uncles, Lena and Don Cunningham of Monongah and Doris Urich of Swisher Hill; grandchildren, Madi Alexa, Brandon Anthony, Jacob David Ralston, Michael Apanowicz and Rylan Elizabeth Apanowicz; and cousins, Shelly and Andrea.

Preceding Michael in death were his grandparents, Anna and Pete Urich, and Aksen and Martha Andrea Kolosoff; and aunts and uncles, Mary and Louis Koldres and Andy Urich.

No visitation or funeral will be conducted at the request of the deceased. A private family service will be conducted at the West Virginia National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by the Grafton Military Council.

Arrangements have been left to the care of Domico Funeral Home, 414 Gaston Ave., Fairmont. Memorial service/Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date to be held at the Fairmont VFW Post 629.
