Rebecca Eliza Alkire Wood, 92, a resident of St. Barbara’a Nursing Home, formerly of Murray Avenue, Fairmont, passed away late Tuesday evening (Aug. 7, 2012) in the nursing facility.
She was born March 24, 1920, in Chiefton, daughter of the late Dr. John Post and Maude Louise Bloom Alkire.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Fraser Orr Wood, who died in 2007.
She was a homemaker in the Bellview area. Mrs. Wood was a member of Highland Avenue United Methodist Church, being a former Sunday School teacher, district director of Children’s Work with the United Methodist Church, and a member of the Church Circle (Mary Group), being the circle leader for 19 years. She was a past president of the B and O Ladies Auxillary, a member of the White Shrine, a Cub Scout leader, and enjoyed her sewing group (1 Dozen Sewers).
Survivors include two sons and their spouses, Ronald Dean and Danielle Gibbles Wood of Fairmont and John W. and Carolyn Sue Wood of Grenada Hills, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Eric John, Chad Allan, Brian Daniel, Michael Allan Wood, Elizabeth Anne Ganem, Suzanne Linhart and Todd Allan Wood; and several great-grandchildren, Cassidy Ann, Clayton Doyle, Faire Rebecca, Audrey Rose, Jesse Allan, Hannah Janes, Tiffeny, Liberty ShanWood, Emma, Halley Rae, Kerby Margaret, Logan, and Abigail Mae Linhart, Savannah Nicole Linhart, Gabriella Danielle Ganem, Antonio Michael Ganem, Audrey Alana Wood, and Noah Alexander.
Mrs. Wood has chosen to have a Funeral Committal Service. The family will greet friends for the graveside Committal Service at 11 a.m. on Friday in the Friendship Cemetery, Jane Lew, with the Rev.
