Donald Sole

Donald Jackson Sole, 84, of Fairmont, died Wednesday (Jan. 30, 2013) in the Pierpont Center in Fairmont.

He was born Feb. 3, 1928, in Glen Dale, the son of the late Hannah Sole.

Surviving is a sister, Julia (Judy) McNeely of Hundred and her husband Walter (Bob) McNeely; one step-daughter, Carolyn (Whitecotton) Boyers and her husband Jerry of Fairmont; and a daughter, Cindy Lou Sole of Hundred; two granddaughters, Melissa Gump of Fairmont and Christina Huffmyer of Pittsburgh, Pa.; and one grandson, Donnie Edward Sole of Hundred; four great-grandchildren; and a niece, Tina Dieffenbauch of Hundred.

Donald served his country as a sergeant in the United States Army during the Korean War.

He worked and retired from General Delivery in Fairmont. He was a volunteer fireman in Winfield District. He was a driver for the Marion County Rescue Squad and also the United Emergency Unit in Hundred. He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 9 of Fairmont.

In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Della Mary Pyles Whitecotton Sole; and a sister, Lucille Hoult and her husband Bobby Max Hoult.

The family would like to thank his friends, neighbors and caregivers: Rudy Bogdon, Don Kincaid, Dorothy Shamblen and her husband, Beverly Knotts, John Fancher, Reed West, Betty Boram and Mark Kuenzi for their help during his illness. They would also like to thank the Marion County Senior Citizens workers who assisted the family in many ways.

It was Donald’s wishes to be cremated.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Feb. 9, 2013, with Evangelist Steve Stevens officiating in the Tennant Funeral Home, 2678 Hornet Highway, Hundred.

Interment of the cremains will follow in Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens in Westover.
