Allison Cross, 97, of Waynesburg, Pa., died at 7:28 a.m. Wednesday (Jan. 23, 2013) in the Golden Living Center, Waynesburg, after being in failing health since April.
He was born Nov. 14, 1915, in Wana, a son of the late George Henry and Emza Jane Cummins Cross.
Mr. Cross had resided in West Virginia most of his life and had wintered in Florida from 1985 until 1992 prior to moving to Waynesburg in December 2005 and had made his home with his son, William Cross, in Rogersville, since January 2012.
He was a member of the First Assembly of God, Eastview in Waynesburg, Pa., and was a 1935 graduate of Wadestown High School.
Mr. Cross had farmed for several years in West Virginia, raising beef cattle, and was last employed as a truck driver for 36 years, with the West Virginia Department of Highways in the Pentress and Sabraton areas prior to retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed listening to gospel quartets, playing the card game of Skip-Bo and a domino game called Turkeyfoot.
On Nov. 14, 1940, he married Geraldine Renner, who survives.
Also surviving are two sons, William, husband of Gwen Cross of Rogersville, Pa., and Rick, husband of Kathy Cross of Waynesburg, Pa.; a daughter, Deborah Lynn, wife of Robert Brookover of Pentress; 14 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
Deceased in addition to his parents is a daughter, Carolyn Jane Thomas, who died in 1992.
Friends will be received from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. today in Rush Funeral Home Inc., Rogersville, Pa., where funeral and committal services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday with Pastor Richard Ritenour officiating. Private interment will follow in Wadestown Cemetery.
