Ruby Marie Wright, 88, of Fairmont, died Thursday (Jan. 10, 2013) at the Ruby Memorial Hospital, Morgantown.
She was born Dec. 20, 1924, a daughter of the late Charley Edward Golden and Icy Dell Dadisman Golden. She is survived by her husband, William Walter Wright of Fairmont. They were married June 25, 1949.
Ruby grew up in Barbour County near the town of Philippi. She and her family lived on a farm that consisted of 100 acres. In search of a better life, Ruby came to Fairmont at the age of 19, even though she knew no one in this area.
She moved here with her older sister Nora, and both got a job at the Westinghouse plant; the year was 1943. Here in Fairmont, she met her husband Bill, and the two had a wonderful life. She retired from Westinghouse after 38 years and she was married for 63 years.
After retiring at the age of 58, Ruby stayed very active. She traveled all throughout the lower 48 states. She and Bill also made two trips to Europe.
Ruby was active in church as well, including teaching Bible school classes. She also volunteered at the Fairmont General Hospital, which she enjoyed greatly.
Ruby was also active with the local breast cancer groups being a cancer survivor herself. She also was a very impressive seamstress and could design and make clothing.
Ruby loved Fairmont and had fond memories of the city and its yester-years. She loved to watch Mountaineer football. She was also a Pirates fan. She also loved to talk to her friends and relatives by phone or by letter.
We will all miss her terribly.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by five brothers, Delbert, Dewey, Herbert, Bruce and Clifford Golden; and eight sisters, Delta Everson, Dolly Shockey, Roxie Shockey, Nora Golden, Opal Golden, Carrie Golden and two infant sisters.
Mrs. Wright was a retired clerk from the Engineering Department at the Westinghouse Corp. in Fairmont. She retired in 1981. She was a member of the East Side Church of Christ, Fairmont, and was a 65-year member where she taught Bible class for many years.
Ruby graduated in 1943 from Philippi High School. She was a volunteer at Fairmont General Hospital and the American Cancer Society. She enjoyed traveling in the United States and in Europe. Ruby also enjoyed sewing, knitting, quilting and flower gardening and loved to be with all children.
The family will receive friends at the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont, today from 6-8 p.m., Sunday from 1-4 p.m. only and Monday from noon-1 p.m.
The funeral service will be held in the funeral home Monday at 1 p.m. with Evangelist Jeremy Joy officiating. The committal service will follow in the Mt. Zion Cemetery & Mausoleum.
