Peter Yost Turner II

Peter Yost Turner II, 44, of Fairmont, passed away Saturday (July 7, 2012).

He was born in Chicago on June 29, 1968, the son of Carol Carni of Fairmont and Peter Yost Turner of Morgantown.

He was a 1986 graduate of East Fairmont High where he was a member of the football, baseball and wrestling teams. Peter joined the Army after graduation and served as a computer programmer at Fort Lee, Va. He also worked for the Federal Aviation Administration in Virginia and for the Department of the Navy in Louisiana. Peter worked for EDS, a software development company in Warren, Ohio. Upon his return to West Virginia, he worked for TMC Technologies. He was currently employed with NIOSH as a software developer for the CDC.

Peter joined the West Virginia National Guard in 1993 and served with the 152nd MP Detachment in Moundsville. He deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina as a section sergeant with the 152nd MP Detachment.

Peter was deeply involved in service to his community. He was a member of Acacia Lodge 157 AF & AM; Scottish Rite 32nd degree KCCH; Orient Chapter 9 RAM; Osiris Shrine of Wheeling; Legion of Honor, Osiris Shrine of Wheeling; Fort Henry York Rite College No. 61; West Virginia Council No. 7 Knight Masons; West Virginia College Masonic Rosicrucians; Fairmont Chapter No. 34 Order of the Eastern Star; Royal Order of Scotland as well as the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of Valley Chapel United Methodist Church.

Peter was an avid trout fisherman and hunter and loved the outdoors. He loved Jeeping and was a founding member of the West Virginia Jeep Club.

In addition to his parents, Peter is survived by his wife, Judy Cain Turner of Fairmont; his sister and her husband, Tracy and Chuck Westerman of Clarksburg; his nephew, David Eugene Keener III of Rivesville; his nephew, Dylan Cain of Worthington; his stepchildren, Timothy Boore and his girlfriend Amie Glover of Rachel, and Nancy Riggs and her husband Paul of Worthington; and his grandchildren, Ava Boore, Mallori Boore, Dezirea Boore, Damian Riggs, Lillyth Riggs, Jasmine Riggs and Santford Riggs.

Peter was preceded in death by his sister, Terry Ann Turner; his uncle, Harmon Edward Lemley; his maternal grandparents, Hugh and Ruby Lemley; and paternal grandparents, Harry and Florence Turner.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-9 p.m. Wednesday. A Scottish memorial will be held at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday. The funeral service will be held at Valley Chapel United Methodist Church in Pleasant Valley at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Andrew Tennant and the Rev. Elizabeth Wycoff officiating. Interment will follow at West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
