Edward J. Zirkle

Edward J. Zirkle, 85, of La Jolla, Calif., (formerly of Fairmont), passed away Saturday (Oct. 27, 2012) at his residence.

He was born Jan. 18, 1927, in Cleveland, Ohio, a son of the late Edward Francis and Belva Lockwood Fogg Zirkle. He was preceded in death by his wife, Sally Jeanette Hyatt Zirkle, who he married on Jan. 27, 1947.

Mr. Zirkle was a Methodist by faith and attended La Jolla United Methodist Church. He received his AB degree from Fairmont State College, MABA from National University and DBA at U.S. International University.

He was a World War II veteran, serving in the United States Army Air Force from 1944-1946. He was a radio announcer, designer, product manager and corporate president for many companies, including Kelvinator, General Electric, US Industries, Beatrice Foods and Samsonite Furniture. At one point he worked at AMC/Kelvinator in Detroit for George Romney.

Following his retirement from the corporate world, he was a professor and dean for the MBA program at Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. Additionally, he taught business courses at various schools in the San Diego, Calif., area.

Mr. Zirkle was a member of the Whitehall Bexley Rotary Club, AF&A Masons, Musicians Union and the United States Navy League.

Mr. Zirkle is survived by three children, Charles Edward Zirkle, Edward Carl Zirkle and Matthew Alfred Zirkle; seven grandchildren, Christopher David Zirkle, Paul David Zirkle, Jon Michael David Zirkle, Rachel Jeanette Zirkle, Mark Patrick Zirkle, Andrew Matthew Zirkle and Sophia Joy Zirkle; and two great-grandchildren, Jayden and Malachi Zirkle. In addition to his parents and wife, he is also preceded in death by one son, David Oliver Zirkle.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Ford Funeral Home, R.C. Jones Chapel, 1410 Country Club Road, Fairmont. A committal service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery, Maple Avenue, Fairmont, on Friday at 3 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.fordfuneralhomes.com.
