Leroy Richard “Dick” Musgrove Sr., 83, of Winfield Community, Fairmont, departed from this life Sunday (July 1, 2012) at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg.
He was born in Bunner Ridge on Aug. 19, 1928, a son of the late Leroy Brooner and Cora Ethel (Moran) Musgrove.
Leroy proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was retired from Alcan Aluminum Co. with 34 years of service. In his earlier years, he was employed in construction. He had a passion for farming and took great pride in maintaining the family farm that had been passed through the family for more than 100 years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Evelyn (Cox) Musgrove of Fairmont; three sons, Leroy Richard Musgrove Jr. and his wife Brenda, John Robert Musgrove, and Ronald Gene Musgrove and his wife Sherry, all of Fairmont; eight grandchildren, Stephanie and Eric McDaniel, Adam and Kelly Musgrove, Trey and Teena Musgrove, Brent Watkins, Erica and Josh Thomas, Crystal and Chad Spires, Heather Musgrove and Ronald Gene Musgrove Jr.; and 13 great-grandchildren, whom he loved dearly, Kaitlin and Jace McDaniel, Josie Musgrove, Callie and Layla Musgrove, Marissa, John and Tyler Thomas, Shawn and Aubrey Swihart, Clarissa and Carli Spires and Abby Watkins.
Also surviving are his sister, Barbara Morgan; a brother-in-law, John Cox and his wife Martha; two sisters-in-law, Helen Valentine and Wilda Musgrove; and a special person who has always been dear to the family, Pamela Hillberry.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Ralph and Dreama Musgrove, Orval Musgrove, Nathan and Rita Musgrove, Bernadine and Bill Jacobs, and Lorine and Ray Tucker; and a grandson, Bobby Joe Musgrove.
Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 6-9 p.m. today, from 1-8 p.m. Wednesday and from 10-11 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Thursday with Pastor Rex Musgrove officiating. Interment will follow at Mount Nebo Cemetery in Marion County where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
