William ‘Bud’ Heston

On May 10, 1928 an angel was born through the blessings of the Lord. Sadly, on Tuesday (Nov. 13, 2012) William Junior “Bud” Heston, 84, of Fairmont, passed away.

While still a young man, Bud was preparing himself for the larger vision of his future upon his marriage to Catherine D. (Willis), moving to Fairmont with their newborn daughter, Gloria, in the fall of 1950. Shortly after moving to West Virginia, Bud and Catherine had four additional children.

Bud was known to be jolly, kind-hearted, generous, hardworking and abundantly loving to his entire family. He had the unique ability to touch the lives of all he came in contact with.

Throughout his years, he worked at a steel foundry in Pontiac, Mich., and while in West Virginia he worked at Heston Construction and various coal mines such as Sunshine and local strip mines. Proudly, for approximately 20 years, he owned his own mine on Stoney Road where he mined with his favorite and trusted workhorse “Tony.” He also worked at C.W. Stickley and Circle Maintenance, then finally at Kirby Sweeper Co.

Bud was the son of the late Faye and Emma (Bowman) Heston.

Living siblings are Emma Jean (Heston) Mayles and Faye R. “Pooch” Heston.  Siblings passed are Lillian L. (Heston) Collins, Richard T. Heston, Letha L. (Heston) Kisner and Lela L. Heston.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Catherine D. (Willis) Heston; his children, Gloria F. (Heston) Sypult and her husband Rick, Cheryl V. (Heston) Butcher and her husband Brad, James R. Heston, Elaine Y. (Heston) Fugera and William R. Heston; his grandchildren, Jenny (Sypult) Shaver, Heidi (Sypult) Shuman, Ricky Sypult Jr., Mariah (Butcher) Taylor, Ryan Butcher, Tammy (Heston) Lynch, Paul Heston, Jill (Heston) Cosco, Jamie (Heston) Utano, David Fugera, Candice (Fugera) Norris and Christi (Heston) Fridley; 18 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Bud fought valiantly for two years for the love of his family with the help of his five children and wife. Heaven is forever changed. Bud is now reunited with those gone before. Smiles flash across the skies in celebration while tears are wiped away and replaced with peace knowing someday we will all meet again.

The family extends their gratitude to the staff of Genesis Tygart Center, Fairmont General Hospital and Amedisys Hospice as well as Dr. Spencer, Dr. McClellan, Dr. Frank and Dr. Petridou for their genuine care and compassion during Bud’s last days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Amedisys Hospice, PO Box 366, Anmoore, WV 26323.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1-8 p.m. Friday and from 10-11 a.m. Saturday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.

Online condolences may be left for the family at www.carpenterandford.com.
