Gary Allen Simmons

Gary Allen Simmons, 66, of Morrow, Ga., formerly of Rivesville, passed away at his home Wednesday (Aug. 1, 2012).

He was born in Rowlesburg on Aug. 5, 1945, a son of the late Calvin and Mary (Bennett) Simmons.

Gary proudly served his country with the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He was retired from the Owens-Illinois Morrow, Ga., plant, where he worked as a shift foreman for 33 years. In his earlier years before moving to Georgia, he had also worked at the Fairmont plant. He enjoyed deer hunting and deep sea fishing. He was a member of VFW Post 7048 of Fairmont.

He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Lena Lorraine (Priest) Simmons; three stepsons, Pastor Rex Musgrove Jr. and his wife Peggy of Fairmont, David Musgrove and his wife Darlene of Covington, Ga., and Timothy Musgrove and his wife Angela of Fairmont; nine grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren

Also surviving are two brothers, Mack Simmons of Augusta, Ga., and Paul Simmons of Masontown, and two sisters, Norma Nixon of West Virginia and Barbara Wood of Maryland.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two stepsons, Nolan “Andy” Musgrove and William Musgrove; one stepdaughter, Mary Musgrove; and a grandson, Craig Allen Musgrove.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 1 to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 2 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. Dr. Earl Klein, Pastor Rex Musgrove and Pastor Harley Mayfield officiating. Interment will follow at Mt. Nebo Cemetery in Marion County where full military honors will be conducted by the Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard.
